In this book, Andrew Sarris operates under the simple premise that a film’s primary author is its director. After initially writing for Film Culturehe moved to The Village Voice where his first piece—a laudatory review of Psycho —was published in Moreover as you work through directors in the lesser categories your eyes begin to glaze over.
